a series of t(h)ree

I’ve been obsessing about trees this week. I found myself looking heavenward at the acacia trees more every morning on my way to work. Trees have this calming/ relaxing effect on me.

During childhood, it was one of the things I loved drawing.  A green cloud-like shape on top of a thin rectangular trunk. It’s one of the things I learned to draw when I was over the ball, umbrella, and two-circle-one-on-top-of-the-other cat stage.

kurtesiya

Nakakairita, nakakamangha, nakakapanghina.

Day 22. 100-peso challenge: G’luck with that

It all started with that romanian lettuce. It looked so inviting, freshly green. It cost me about 30 Php. Then, I bought some cucumber and kalamansi (5Php) to go with the lettuce for lunch. And all the while I was thinking, I’m going to  stay within the budget today.

During lunch, I found the greens too green. (I now know what green tastes like.) So thought of adding tuna to the salad. Went to Mang Pogs’ to get the tuna (30 Php). I later found that I won’t – cannot – survive on salads. By about 3pm, I was hungry – again.

This is the part where I blame the weather for that hunger. It’s very warm – vereeeeh warm – today. By about 3:30 pm, I was enjoying (feeling slightly guilty) a strawberry shake. And then there was a light snack (15 Php) at about 5pm. Still, when we left work at about 7 pm, I was hungry. I know,  Ang takaw! No wonder why my sisters call me Jughead. I’m highly appreciative of food – not limited to burgers 🙂

Going back, this day was really different. I was hungry all day. If it’s because of the heat, I’m dreading my expenses for the rest of the El Niño and summer.

Lessons learnt? (1) I definitely won’t survive with salads no matter how attractive they may look; (2) just when one thinks, they can operate within the budget, one gets lax and overspends; and (3) to take Kuya Sherwin’s advise seriously –  drink lots of water 🙂

It’s going to be one tough weekend.

Day 21. 100-peso challenge: excuses

I’ve successfully restrained myself from buying anything yesterday 🙂 Today’s challenge would have been to keep my expenses at 50 Php to make up for overspending during days 19 and 20.

The strawberry shake and nuts cost me about 50 Php. It would have been great if I ended the day’s expenditure there. Did not happen. I was so happy to finish the first draft of the write-up that I thought I deserved a treat. There’s still a lot of work to do, but hey, we’re a step closer to finishing it.

Plus, I received a small amount for some work reimbursements and I really need to have something deliciously spicy. Been craving for that all day.

Excuses, excuses…

Days 19 and 20. 100-peso challenge

Confession time. I spent 250 Php yesterday and yes, it’s way beyond the 100-peso limit 😦

That’s is the reason why I have packed lunch today. No food expenses for the day. That’s the challenge.

I’ve been feeling rather productive this week. I just hope the feeling would keep me company for a longer time. I managed to submit an output that has been in my to-do list for weeks! One down 🙂
