Day 1 South Cotabato (General Santos City and Banga)

It was half past two in the morning when the rented van made the rounds. We had a 5:30 am flight to Tambler Airport. The thought of being late for the 2:30 am call time kept me awake most of the night.

It was about 8 am when we arrived in Tambler Airport. The research team was to visit the Provincial Agriculture Office after checking in at a hotel in General Santos City.

First official stop. A visit to the provincial agriculture officer who has been a great help in coordinating the South Cotabato leg of the research.
Members of the research team interview a model farmer in his home in Banga, South Cotabato.

Day 1 set the pace for the five-day data gathering. There will be a LOT of farmer interviews and questionnaires to fill in every location. It’s more challenging to deal all these given the three hour sleep from last night.

Discovered this ten-peso coffee in the hotel lobby. Had to ask for instructions from the security guard. I just knew I’d be saving five peso coins for this coffee😀

One would think we’ll all be drained at the end of the day. Still, there was energy left for food. Dinner at the local restaurant specializing in chicken and dessert at the fruit stalls – marang, durian, and mangosteen – and soda.
